Legislation Includes Sherrill-Led Provisions, Is Awaiting Final Passage by Senate
Washington, DC–– Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement following House passage of the final National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) package today:
"After months of negotiation, I was proud to vote for the bipartisan, bicameral NDAA package for FY2022. This year's bill will ensure our military remains the best fighting force in the world and has everything they need to confront the challenges ahead. It also provides the support our servicemembers and veterans need and deserve for their service.
"This bill includes crucial provisions I fought hard for, including critical funding for Picatinny Arsenal, better protections for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits, improvements to our cyber capabilities, and the removal of sexual assault cases from the chain of command.
"I am so proud of the strong investments this bill makes for Picatinny Arsenal. The Arsenal is not only a critical driver of North Jersey's economy, adding more than $1 billion into the local economy each year, but is a key center of excellence for military innovation and is on the cutting edge of modernization.
"We've continued to have the same conversations about military sexual harassment and assault that we were having when I was a Midshipman at the Naval Academy. This success, after decades of fighting, wouldn't have been possible without the bipartisan coalition of women veterans in Congress. We brought our personal experiences to the table and turned words into action. Survivors will now be afforded a better chance at justice because of it. I'm so proud to fight this fight alongside them.
"After prolonged delay, it is my sincere hope that the Senate can finally move quickly to propel this legislation to the President's desk to be signed into law."
