Legislation Will Avert Billions of Dollars in Impending Medicare Cuts to Hospitals, Doctors and Other Providers Across NJ-11 That Were Set To Take Effect At Year End
Washington, DC–– Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted to pass legislation to prevent harmful sequester cuts to Medicare reimbursements for healthcare providers in North Jersey.
"Today's vote was critical in preventing harmful cuts to our nation's hospitals, doctors, and health care professionals who have endured nearly two years of grueling work during a global pandemic," said Rep. Sherrill. "Cutting Medicare reimbursement to our health care professionals, especially at this time, is simply unacceptable. I am concerned that the financial stress of these cuts layered on top of burnout from the pandemic would only exacerbate the retirements, office closures, and reduced staffing facing so many providers, and ultimately result in limited patient access to care in my district. I'm proud that we voted to pass this critical legislation to prevent these harmful cuts."
For nearly two years, health care providers in North Jersey have faced some of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the country and worked tirelessly to keep our families healthy and communities protected. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Rep. Sherrill has been meeting regularly with providers in NJ-11 who have repeatedly raised concerns over looming Medicare physician payment.
In response, earlier this year, Rep. Sherrill signed a bipartisan letter with over 245 Members urging House Leadership to address these looming Medicare cuts. This week, she signed an additional letter with 18 of her colleagues to President Biden and House and Senate leadership urging them to take action on these Medicare cuts before the impending deadline in order to prevent potential loss of access to medically necessary services.
