Last night, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for and the House of Representatives passed by a vote of 417 to 8 the Asset Seizure for Ukraine Reconstruction Act, bipartisan legislation that encourages the seizure and sale of Russian oligarchs’ ill-begotten assets to fund Ukraine’s recovery amid Putin’s continued onslaught.
“Putin’s unprovoked war in Ukraine has caused untold suffering and destruction,” said Rep. Feenstra. “By confiscating and selling Russian oligarchs’ lucrative assets, we can begin to fund Ukraine’s recovery and support the innocent people who have lost everything in just a few short months. Putin’s aggression must be met with American strength and leadership, and I am proud to have voted for this critical legislation.”
More specifically, these confiscated assets would fund post-war reconstruction, humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, and military aid to the brave people of Ukraine.
In concert with the Asset Seizure for Ukraine Reconstruction Act, Feenstra also voted for bipartisan legislation expressing American support for Moldova’s democracy, independence, and territorial integrity as well as strengthening U.S.-Moldova relations. It passed the House by a vote of 409 to 17.
Bordering Ukraine to the southwest, Moldova has been a longtime ally of Ukraine and an important partner in beating back Putin’s devastating invasion of Ukraine.
