Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, the Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, yesterday helped to introduce the Veterans First Act of 2022 to stop President Joe Biden’s Administration from reallocating resources for America’s veterans to manage the crisis at the southern border created by the president’s open border policies.
Specifically, the Veterans First Act prohibits the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from using resources earned by the heroic men and women who served in our nation’s uniform from being prioritized for use by illegal immigrants. Earlier this week, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed DHS is in talks to divert VA resources, doctors, and nurses to help care for illegal immigrants.
“For the past year-and-a-half, President Biden and his Administration have relentlessly pursued open border policies that have left the southern border unsecured and Border Patrol overwhelmed with ceaseless illegal crossings, drug smuggling, and crime. The fact that the president and DHS are even considering using resources allocated for our nation’s veterans who honorably served is a slap in the face of every citizen and every American who has served in the military, said Rep. Fleischmann. “Veterans and their families should not have to pay the price for Biden’s and Democrats’ open border policies.”
The Veterans First Act was introduced by Rep. Steve Womack (AR-03) with the support of Rep. Fleischmann and 29 additional original cosponsors.
