U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), released the following statement commemorating Vietnam Veterans Day and honoring those who answered the call to serve.
"The men and women of our nation's armed forces have valiantly served our country on countless battlefields and in foreign nations since the dawn of our Republic. From 1964, when the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was passed, to 1973, when the last American combat troops were ordered out of Vietnam, tens of thousands of American servicemen and women served the cause of freedom and democracy. Unfortunately, however, when many of them returned home, they did not receive the warm heroes' welcome that they deserved. Today, on Vietnam Veterans Day, and every day, we honor the service and sacrifice of countless veterans who gave their all to God, Country, and to give the South Vietnamese people the chance to live in freedom. We as a community will never forget what our Vietnam Veterans did during their service and vow always to remember, honor, and cherish those who answered the call to duty," said Congressman Fleischmann.
