WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) joined WOWK 13 News' Inside West VirginiaPolitics to discuss soaring gas prices, rampant inflation, and her recently introduced legislation to incentivize gun training and safety.
The Firearm Proficiency and Training Act was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Miller, Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC). The legislation will create a tax deduction for individuals who take certified firearm training courses, as well as for those who purchase gun safety and storage equipment.
Highlights:
On Soaring Gas Prices:"The first thing we need to do is get the President to start approving all the pipelines and energy development he possibly can, and to stop the federal freeze on all the oil and gas projects that we have. Ever since he came to office, his mission has been to destroy our oil and gas industry and I just do not understand why they don't want us to be dominant in the energy sector. Energy security is our national security."
On Need to Increase Domestic Energy Supply:"It’s a supply and demand thing. If we are allowed to produce oil and gas the price will go down. When we have a lot on hand the price will go down. Why in the world we are going to countries that are not our friends inquiring about buying from them is ludacris."
On Rampant Inflation:"We’ve got to stop spending as a country, the spending is out of control. Last year, we brought in $3.8 trillion and spent $6.8 trillion. You can’t do that in your home, you can’t do that in your business, and we certainly have no business doing that as a country. Yes, we did have to backfill during COVID, but the time to stop it is now. We need to get people back to work."
On the Firearm Proficiency and Training Act: "...It would allow people to take up a $250 tax credit if they have a storage or safety device that they purchase or if they take concealed carry courses or any other kind of certified course on firearm safety... We have the right to bear arms. It’s a part of our Constitution and I am sworn to uphold my Constitution."
