Budzinski reaffirms her commitment to the workforce at Granite City Works: “I stand with every worker who will be impacted by this proposal.”

Springfield, IL – Today, Nikki Budzinski, the Democratic nominee in Illinois’ 13th Congressional district, released the following statement on U.S. Steel’s misguided and disappointing proposal to sell two of its three blast furnaces at its Granite City location. U.S. Steel’s proposal could cost 1,000 jobs within the Granite City Community, leaving employees at the plant in the dust.

Budzinski made the following statement: “I stand with the workforce at Granite City Works that will be impacted by this disappointing and wrongheaded proposal.  This proposal will put over 1,000 jobs in IL-13 on the line. I stand with every worker and the communities who will be impacted by this potential decision.”

“My grandfather was a union painter and my grandmother a public-school teacher – I come from a union family and spent a decade working in the labor movement for firefighters, meatpackers, and grocery store workers. We must prioritize American steel and bring manufacturing back to Illinois, and I’ll never stop fighting for working families.”
