Parsippany, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) today announced the winners of her third annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in the 11th District. The competition took place virtually this year and showcases high school students' creativity and artistic expression.

Submissions were reviewed by Ira Wagner, Executive Director of the Montclair Art Museum, Megan C. Austin, Director of University Galleries at Montclair State University, and Cleveland Johnson, President/CEO of the Morris Museum.

"This year's art competition submissions were all stunning. I am endlessly impressed with the artistic talent in NJ-11. Through this pandemic, art has served so many as a mode of expression and human connection when we've felt so separated from each other," said Rep. Sherrill. "Thank you to every student who participated and to Ira, Megan, and Cleveland for judging this year's competition. I can't wait to see Margaret's painting celebrated as it hangs in the Capitol. Congratulations to Margaret, Sofia, and Taylor and well done to everyone who participated!"

The following students earned distinction for their pieces:

First Place: "Leave Them Outside" by Margaret Dela Cruz, Passaic County Technical Institute

Second Place: "Keeping Face" by Sofia Dinka, Morris Catholic High School

Third Place: "Dim Decay" by Taylor Wallace, Morris Catholic High School

FIRST PLACE: "Leave Them Outside" by Margaret Dela Cruz, Passaic County Technical Institute
