Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) issued the following statement following her vote to keep people safe from assault weapons:

“I will always take steps to keep people safe. Today, the House of Representatives is taking a major step to stopping the epidemic of gun violence in America by passing an assault weapon ban. Time and time again we witness in horror as these weapons of war kill innocent people at school, at the grocery store, or in a movie theater. We live in the only country where mass shootings are an everyday fact of life. Good policy choices are our way out.

“My House Democratic colleagues and I are committed to true public safety for all. That’s why we are passing today’s assault weapon ban while continuing to work on additional legislation that will keep people safe in their communities and increase police accountability. We’re done dying at the hands of the police.”
