Washington, DC – Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) today voted for the bipartisan National Apprenticeship Act to expand the Registered Apprenticeship Program, streamline access for workers and employers, and better protect apprentices. The legislation will help create an estimated one million new apprenticeship positions nationwide over the next five years.

"Millions of Americans are out of work due to the pandemic and associated economic recession and we need to stay focused on helping workers get to the other side of this crisis," said Rep. Sherrill. "Apprenticeship programs create opportunities for workers to learn new skills and transition into good-paying jobs. I've heard from residents, labor leaders, and educators across North Jersey about how valuable apprenticeship programs are for both workers and employers, and I'm proud to support the expansion of this program with a proven track record of success."

According to the Department of Labor, 94 percent of workers are employed and earn an average starting wage of over $70,000 a year upon completion of the Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Representative Sherrill is a co-sponsor of the National Apprenticeship Act and voted for its passage in the 116th Congress. In January 2021, Representative Sherrill joined the Education and Labor Committee and the House's Labor Caucus for the 117th Congress.
