Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) released a new report from the Joint Economic Committee estimating that 77,000 Child Tax Credit monthly tax cuts were sent to families in Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District the week before Thanksgiving. A total of $32.4 million in tax cuts went back in the pockets of hardworking Fifth District families, covering 125,000 district children in November.
“As corporations take advantage of our pandemic recovery to squeeze consumers, the Child Tax Credit is putting more of hardworking families’ own money back in their pockets,” said Congresswoman Williams. “Hundreds of dollars in tax cuts for district families the week before Thanksgiving means gas in the car for that trip to mama’s house or extra grocery money to get Thanksgiving dinner on the table. Families have now seen how the Child Tax Credit helps them. Congress must deliver for our families and make the Child Tax Credit permanent.”
Statewide, 1,271,000 monthly tax cuts went to families in November for a total of $49.9 million. The average tax cut was $433.
Nationwide, the Treasury Department has distributed nearly $16 billion to the hardworking families of over 61 million children.
