Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) led the introduction of a bipartisan resolution commemorating the life and legacy of former U.S. Senator Max Cleland who passed away on November 9, 2021, at the age of 79. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) led the legislation in the Senate.

“Senator Cleland was a true statesman who represented the best of Georgia,” said Congresswoman Williams. “He always said he was not a hero, but how else could you describe him? His patriotism and commitment to service are an inspiration to us all. This resolution is the first step to honoring the life of one of Georgia’s finest citizens.”

“The nation has lost a true giant of public service, and Georgia has lost one of our fiercest champions,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “My prayers remain with Senator Cleland’s family and all those who loved him.
