On Friday, Rep. Mark Green, in a letter to President Biden, demanded an immediate ban on Russian oil and gas in response to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine:
Rep. Green said, “The economic lifeblood of the Russian economy remains in its ability to export oil and gas. American dollars spent on Russian oil equals American dollars harming Ukrainians—plain and simple. We cannot allow our dollars to line the pocket of Putin’s devastation.”
An excerpt from the letter reads, “We ask that you consult the Department of Treasury as soon as possible on best practices for including the Russian energy sector in any and all American sanction efforts and to consult with our allies and NATO partners on their efforts to do so. America should not be funding a murderous and hostile regime.”
