Rep. Mark Green was joined by Tennessee Representatives Tim Burchett, Scott DesJarlais, Diana Harshbarger, Chuck Fleischmann, David Kustoff, and John Rose in demanding solutions from the Department of Veterans Affairs on burial space shortages for our veterans.

Rep. Green said, “The national veteran cemeteries managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs are quickly running out of adequate space to properly honor the men and women who fought for us. I’m grateful to work alongside my colleagues in the House of Representatives from Tennessee to ensure our veterans, and their families, are honored with burial sites. This is the least we can do for those who so valiantly served our nation.”

An excerpt from the Representatives' letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough reads: “Of the five national veterans cemeteries located in Tennessee serving our veteran constituents and their families, only two currently have burial space available and even these limited spaces are rapidly running out. As Tennessee’s Representatives in the United States Congress, we request your planned solution to this growing crisis of cemetery availability for our veteran constituents.”

For 160 years, the United States government has guaranteed that all veterans will have a burial space and maintenance of the gravesite, free of charge, to the veteran’s family. The Delegation requested a response no later than April 30th, 2022.
