Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) released the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s proposed Waters of the United States rule change:
“The Biden Administration’s proposed Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule would be detrimental to Pennsylvania’s agriculture and small business communities.
This Obama-era policy is a massive government overreach that expands the Federal government’s jurisdiction over virtually any waters on private land. If this rule is implemented it will not only infringe on the property rights of Americans, it will raise costs on American businesses, farmers, and landowners.
The Biden Administration is ignoring the economic and ecological costs this rule will have in small communities across the country. So much so, that President Biden’s own Small Business Administration, Office of Advocacy, has highlighted that this rule will hurt small businesses.
It is the job of the federal government to empower Americans and create opportunity, it should not hinder hardworking Americans with burdensome regulations like WOTUS. The Biden Administration should withdraw this rule immediately.”
