U.S Congressman Dan Meuser (R-09) was on hand with fellow members of the House Republican Conference as Leader Kevin McCarthy, Whip Steve Scalise and Chair of the House Republican Conference Elise Stefanik unveiled the “Commitment to America” today, a comprehensive plan to offer solutions on the economy, safety, freedom, and government accountability and get America back on track.
“As a businessperson, I love having a plan,” Meuser commented on the proposal, which Republicans will implement upon retaking the majority in Congress next year. “It embraces the priories and values of our constituents.”
The plan contains four pillars:
- An Economy That’s Strong
- A Nation That’s Safe
- A Future That’s Built on Freedom
- A Government That’s Accountable
Plans to curtail the influx of illegal border crossings, rampant crime in American cities and an increased investment in the American military are addressed in the safety pillar of the platform. “The situation at the border is an unmitigated disaster,” Meuser emphasized. “Americans want a plan that stems the overwhelming number of individuals who have entered the United States and whose whereabouts then becomes unknown, and addresses the problem of human and drug trafficking, which is rampant, dangerous, and deadly. We also need to give law enforcement the tools they need to do their jobs properly and end the lenient practices of liberal prosecutors. We must address the influx of deadly fentanyl into our country, which is killing our citizens in disturbing numbers.”
Education, health care and privacy from big tech are also part of the plan. A Parents’ Bill of Rights is outlined, focusing on school choice, and addressing the detrimental impact Covid-19 has had on the education of our children. There is an emphasis on quality and affordable prices for health care, with choices for patients and competition to keep prices in check. There are plans for keeping children safe online and making sure the privacy of all is protected.
“Parents in this country need to feel like stakeholders in the education of their children, not adversaries who are criticized when they speak up about important issues in the classroom,” Meuser commented. “Americans need to be able to afford decent health care that is delivered in a way that gives them the ability to receive it from the doctors they trust.”
On the issue of internet privacy and safety, Meuser stated, “There is an increasing concern over what happens to an individual’s personal information online, and the consequences when it falls into the wrong hands. The ability of strangers to prey on the vulnerable, including children, needs to be a concern of all of us, including lawmakers.”
Making Washington more accountable to citizens is the final pillar of the “Commitment to America.” This includes the preservation of free speech, protecting the rights of the unborn, guaranteeing the rights of religious freedom and upholding the Second Amendment. It also calls for holding Washington accountable for actions that have been taken at home and abroad. There is a plan for free and fair elections, and to end proxy voting by lawmakers.
“Americans are increasingly unhappy with the marginalization of their freedoms,” Meuser expressed. “They are concerned about policies they believe have been disastrous around the globe, leaving us vulnerable to the whims of other countries. They want to know that their votes are being counted and that their lawmakers are present in Washington during important proceedings,” he added.
Here is a brief overview:
AN ECONOMY THAT’S STRONG
Fight Inflation and Lower the Cost of Living
- Curb wasteful government spending that is raising the price of groceries, gas, cars, and housing, and growing our national debt
- Increase take-home pay, create good-paying jobs, and bring stability to the economy through pro-growth tax and deregulatory policies
- Maximize production of reliable, cleaner, American-made energy and cut the permitting process time in half to reduce reliance on foreign countries, prevent rolling blackouts, and lower the cost of gas and utilities
- Move supply chains away from China, expand U.S. manufacturing, and enhance America’s economic competitiveness and cyber resiliency.
Secure the border and combat illegal immigration
- Fully fund effective border enforcement strategies, infrastructure, and advanced technology to prevent illegal crossings and trafficking by cartels End catch-and-release loopholes, require legal status to get a job, and eliminate welfare incentives
- Support 200,000 more police officers through recruiting bonuses and oppose all efforts to defund the police
- Crack down on prosecutors and district attorneys who refuse to prosecute crimes, while permanently criminalizing all forms of illicit fentanyl
- Support our troops, invest in an efficient, effective military, establish a Select Committee on China, and exercise peace through strength with our allies to counter increasing global threats
Make Sure Every Student Can Succeed and Give Parents a Voice
- Advance the Parents’ Bill of Rights, recover lost learning from school closures, and expand parental choice so over a million more students can receive the education their parents know is best
- Defend fairness by ensuring that only women can compete in women’s sports
- Personalize care to provide affordable options and better quality, delivered by trusted doctors
- Lower prices through transparency, choice, and competition, invest in lifesaving cures, and improve access to telemedicine
- Provide greater privacy and data security protections, equip parents with more tools to keep their kids safe online, and stop companies from putting politics ahead of people
Preserve Our Constitutional Freedoms
- Uphold free speech, protect the lives of unborn children and their mothers, guarantee religious freedom, and safeguard the Second Amendment
- Conduct rigorous oversight to rein in government abuse of power and corruption, provide real transparency, and require the White House to answer for its incompetence at home and abroad
- End special treatment for Members of Congress by repealing proxy voting, and increase accountability in the election process through voter ID, accurate voter rolls, and observer access
