PARAMUS, NJ — Local U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer visited the borough today to announce each household in the fifth congressional district has saved $415 in federal tax dollars for 2020.
Paramus received $360,000 through the Assistance to Firefighters 2020 federal grant for 80 portable radios, Gottheimer said.
“By working with mayors, councils, first responders, colleges, nonprofits, and religious institutions, to fight for federal grants for our communities, we are now up more than 112 percent in our federal tax dollars that we’ve clawed back to Jersey from Washington, helping to lower our property taxes, make life more affordable, and improve the Fifth District in countless ways,” Gottheimer said.
Gottheimer was joined at today’s announcement by Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera, Paramus Fire Department Chief Michael Cleenput, Upper Saddle River Chief of Police Patrick Rotella, and North Jersey first responders.
Additionally, while not included in the final 2020 calculations, the Fifth District received more than $3 billion dollars of COVID-19 relief from the CARES Act passed by Congress in 2020.
