Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. announced today that New Jersey Transit (NJT) received a $5.15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to purchase and lease low or no-emission buses and other transit vehicles for their public transportation system. The funding was part of the department’s Low and No Emission (Low-No) vehicle grant program and would help New Jersey Transit replace older diesel buses and vehicles with vehicles that run on battery, electric, or fuel-cell power. The new buses will help clean the air and help improve the health and safety of residents along the routes from Newark to Irvington.
"This grant will help New Jersey Transit improve their transportation system to be more environmentally friendly throughout my district," said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. "The more zero-emission and low-emission buses we have on the roads, the less pollution we add to the atmosphere. This grant is another example of the Biden Administration's commitment to cleaner air for all Americans."
