Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) issued the following statement on Saturday's mass shooting in Buffalo, New York:

“My heart is broken. I stand with the victims’ families, loved ones, and everyone else mourning the lives lost in Buffalo over the weekend.

“This weekend, 10 innocent lives were lost in an act of racist violence. The shooter, who drove 200 miles with the specific goal of carrying out a targeted attack on a predominantly Black community, was clearly motivated by white supremacy and antisemitism. In no uncertain terms, this was an act of pure hate.

“Sadly, the Buffalo shooting is only the latest chapter in our nation’s centuries-long history of violence motivated by white supremacy. The city of Buffalo now joins a long list of American cities, including Charleston, El Paso, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Tulsa.

“Today, I grieve for the innocent Americans whose lives were cut tragically short by a bigoted extremist. Today, I recommit myself to passing common-sense gun regulations that would keep deadly weapons out of the hands of would-be domestic terrorists. Today, I condemn white supremacy in all its forms, and I call on every American to do the same. Hateful, racist violence has no place here.”
