Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman released the following statement in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month:

“This Jewish American Heritage Month, we recognize the struggles, the sacrifices, and the strength of our Jewish American neighbors in New Jersey’s 12th District and across the country. Jewish Americans have made invaluable contributions to every facet of the American experience. Let us celebrate these contributions, reflect on the often-tragic history of the Jewish people, and recommit ourselves to condemning antisemitism in all its forms.

“Dating back to the first Jewish refugees who fled discrimination and oppression in search of a better life, the Jewish American experience is an integral part of our national identity. American progress in tolerance and inclusivity has been shaped by those who have encountered violent oppression, prejudice and persecution and have still persisted to demand equal opportunities and rights for all Americans. Now, in the face of surging antisemitism and white supremacy, we must continue to stand with our Jewish neighbors and friends against all bigoted and hateful rhetoric.

“Jewish Americans continue to guide our country’s progress from public service to the arts and sciences, and their achievements have strengthened our nation. The Jewish American story, and the story of our nation, is fueled by the values and ideals that have been passed down through generations. This month, let us honor the traditions, heritage and resilience of the Jewish Americans that have helped shape the values of our democracy.”
