im Ryan today released the following statement in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the murder of Vincent Chin:

“Today, we mark 40 years since Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit after being targeted for his race and brutally attacked by two white men who had lost their jobs in the auto industry. Decades later, and with violence against Asian Americans on the rise, we in the industrial Midwest cannot forget and we cannot look away from this dark history.

“No one should ever feel unsafe or unwelcome in their community. As we work to rebuild our state and revitalize manufacturing, I’ll keep working to recognize the contributions of Asian Americans and make sure law enforcement has the resources they need to prevent and prosecute hate crimes, speaking up against racist and xenophobic violence, and working to make sure Asian Americans have a seat at the table at this critical moment.”
