MEUSER VOTES AGAINST H.R.5

Pennsylvania

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) released the following statement after voting against H.R.5 in the House of Representatives:

"All people should be treated with dignity and respect, and no American should face discrimination of any kind. Unfortunately, this legislation goes beyond commonsense protections to include measures that are harmful to religious freedom and threaten the rights of women provided through Title IX, including forcing girls to compete against biological males who identify as female in athletics, and eliminating the ability to provide separate spaces, services, and protections entitled to females. H.R. 5 could also force religious institutions to violate their beliefs by covering abortion and requiring medical professionals and hospitals to offer abortion services despite their sincerely held religious beliefs. Instead of working with Republicans to balance constitutional rights and protections from discrimination, Democrats are once again threatening the liberties of Americans to appease their far-left base."
