Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) announced $112,718,824 to help hardworking New Jersey families with energy costs this winter through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). As American’s continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, LIHEAP grantees will be able to use the funding appropriated by Congress, along with funding made available through the American Rescue Plan Act, to help more than 5 million households stay warm this winter, cover utility costs and pay for energy repairs.

“Between the pandemic and Hurricanes Henri and Ida, this year has been historically challenging for New Jerseyans,” said Watson Coleman. “As hardworking New Jersey families continue recovering from a difficult year, this investment will help them cover their energy costs and stay warm, safe and healthy this winter.”
The LIHEAP allocations are in addition to the funding New Jersey families received in May from the American Rescue Plan to help cover energy costs during the summer months.
