BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) administered the oath of office for Bergen County Commissioner Steve Tanelli
In Bergen, Gottheimer was also joined by Governor Phil Murphy, incoming Senate President Nick Scutari, County Executive Jim Tedesco, Commissioner Tom Sullivan, Commissioner Ramon Hache, Commissioner Germaine Ortiz, Commissioner Mary Amoroso, Commissioner Joan Voss, Honorable Julien Neals, Honorable Bonnie Mizdol, Bergen County Clerk John Hogan, families and friends, and community members.
Congratulation to everyone else who was sworn in as well: Commissioner Tracy Zur, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton, and Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler.
“Those taking this oath today have been entrusted with the most fundamental duties of government: making sure our roads are paved, ensuring there is clean water, and keeping our families safe. This is a solemn duty — to govern and to lead — especially today with COVID variants still running rampant, with our economy reopening and small businesses getting back on their feet, our kids back in school, and as we all work to make life more affordable for our families and seniors,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5).
Gottheimer noted, “As a Commissioner, Steve never stops. He was instrumental in leading and approving the first ever Bergen County Parks Master Plan, to completely renovate and expand the Bergen County Parks System, he’s fighting to address bottlenecks on Route 17, he’s supported the construction of athletic fields, like in Riverside County Park. And throughout COVID, he’s helped combat food insecurity with the Bergen County Food Security Task Force, made sure schools and students had the resources they needed for online learning — like access to laptops and broadband — and helped distribute PPE to hospitals and first responders. It’s clear that Steve is a leader who never settles for good enough. He works incredibly hard to fight for Bergen County, and I couldn’t be happier that he’s now starting his fourth term in office.”
