Congress passed a bill to give health care to veterans affected by toxic burn pits last week, and our congressman voted NO. This is a serious health issue that may affect 3.5 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Read all about it here.) 

But after all his meetings with veterans groups – and recounting how scared he was they might pick his draft number  in the days of Vietnam – Rep. Cliff Bentz had a chance to support the men and women who have served in wars, and failed.

Thirty-four Republicans joined the Democrats to pass the PACT Act after President Biden included it in his State of the Union address, saying he thinks it could have been a factor in his son’s brain cancer. Bentz was NOT one of those Republicans.

This is not the first time Bentz has voted against benefits for veterans:

On Jan. 12, he voted against expanding G.I. Bill rights to National Guard and Reserve members. 

On Jan. 20, he voted against the EVEST Act, which automatically enrolls  veterans who are eligible for VA health care into the VA healthcare system. 

And on June 24, 2021, he voted against providing contraceptives to veterans without co-pays. 

We encourage veterans and families of veterans living in Congressional District 2 to call his offices (202-225-6730 and 541-776-4646), write letters to the editor, and – above all – remember in November!
