RALEIGH: Today, candidate for U.S. Senate Cheri Beasley slammed Senate Republicans for introducing an extreme abortion ban that will take away Americans’ freedom and put women’s lives on the line:
“Washington Republicans’ extreme abortion ban will cost us our freedom and women’s lives. Congressman Budd is so hell-bent on getting in between a woman and her doctor that he would ban abortion even in instances of rape, incest and threats to a woman’s life. The stakes of this election have never been higher – or more clear – as a judge for over two decades I protected these constitutional rights and I will not hesitate to vote to protect these freedoms in the U.S. Senate.”
Despite the majority of North Carolinians supporting the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade, Congressman Budd supports a complete ban on abortion including in instances of rape, incest and threat to a woman’s life. He voted against supporting the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would secure this constitutional right and called the overturning of Roe v. Wade a “historic victory.”
