Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. issued the following statement today regarding New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s plan to provide grants to New Jersey small businesses after rainfall from Tropical Storm Ida flooded the state.  The plan will provide $10 million in short term, immediate rent and mortgage reimbursements to New Jersey businesses and non-profits with up to 50 employees that suffered damage from the storms on September 1-2, 2021 or from flooding caused by the storms after those dates.

“I applaud Governor Murphy for his immediate action to help the New Jersey businesses that suffered weather and flood damage after Tropical Storm Ida hit our state.  I toured my district to see the flooding myself and know that this funding is needed desperately in my cities and across the state.  These are small businesses that were struggling to keep doors open and lights on due to the pandemic already.  These storms hurt their recovery even more.  I commend Governor Murphy for assuring that businesses will get these grants quickly to help them during this incredibly difficult time.”
