WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) voted to pass H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a bill that strengthens election integrity, makes our political system more responsible to every day Americans than big money interests, and strengthens political ethics laws to make politicians accountable to the American people.

"I came to Congress two years ago because I saw a system that wasn't working for the people; what I've seen since then is worse than I knew, and it demands we take immediate action now," said Congressman Kim. "I hear about this from people in my own community because people understand that better politics means better policies. When public servants are serving the public, when people have full access to the ballot box, and when there are real consequences for politicians who break the rules, all of our systems work better. We face a series of generational crises, and the only way we can truly move forward to solve them is if we solve the structural issues that stand in our way."

"I also know that this vote isn't the end of our fight to get this bill passed," continued Congressman Kim. "I hope my colleagues in the Senate take this up with the same urgency we have and bring it to President Biden's desk for his signature."

Last month, Congressman Kim introduced The Alice Paul Voter Protection Act, which protects voter registration efforts by making it unlawful for any person to hinder or prevent another person from registering or aiding another person in registering to vote. The legislation also encourages the establishment of best practices to ensure that states protect these critical rights. Language from this bill has been incorporated in H.R. 1.

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
