Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr., Chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, issued the following statement today regarding the confirmation of Amitabha Bose to become the new Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).  Bose, the previous FRA Deputy Administrator and former New Jersey Transit official, will be responsible for the allocation of $66 billion in rail funding to projects nationwide from the newly-enacted $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“I want to congratulate Amitabha Bose for his appointment and confirmation to become Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration.  He is a great choice to lead the FRA because he has spent his career working in railroad administration.  He becomes Administrator at a critical time because of the historic investments to repair and rebuild our nation’s rail system in the new infrastructure law.  We must make sure a significant amount of that funding will help increase access to rail in our urban and rural communities as well as study the feasibility of high-speed rail.  As Chairman of the Rail Subcommittee, I look forward to working with Administrator Bose to improve the safety and reliability of America’s rail system for all passengers and workers.”
