Today, March 25th, 2022, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) signed on as a cosponsor of H.J.Res. 72, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to end the CDC’s mask mandate for public transportation. H.J.Res. 72 was introduced by Reps. Dan Bishop (NC-09) and Brian Mast (FL-18).
This legislation is the House companion to S.J.Res. 37, introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), that recently passed the Senate in a bipartisan manner, 57-40.
“There is no reason to continue mandating masks on public transportation. You should be able to wear a mask if you want to, but it should not be a mandate,” said Miller-Meeks. “Americans should be free to evaluate their risk and medical status to make the decision to wear a mask for themselves, not have masks forced upon them by the government. The Senate showed that there is bipartisan support to repeal mask mandates on public transportation, the House should act immediately.”
Miller-Meeks has consistently spoken out against the need for mask mandates. She has joined as a cosponsor of the Preventing Mandates on Toddlers Act, the Unmask Our Kids Act, and the Unmasking of Americans Act. Earlier this month, Miller-Meeks joined a letter urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to rescind the rule mandating face masks on public transportation.
This Joint Resolution under the CRA disapproves of the rule submitted by the CDC to require masks for public transportation. Right now, the CDC mandate requires anyone using public transportation, such as planes and metros, to wear a mask. This also applies to school buses, even as many school districts across the country are ending their school mask mandates.
