WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement on reports in the Washington Postthat North Korea engaged in short-range missile tests during the weekend:
"These tests only confirm what we know: the importance of working with our allies in the region to build out a sustainable strategy to engage North Korea with the end goal of de-escalation and stabilization. The recent visit by Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin, to Seoul and Tokyo, demonstrates a good first step in reestablishing an alliance-focused approach and seeing these strategic partners as critical to achieving our goals. This news should only remind us of the urgency of the issue which should be addressed holistically with haste."
Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Congressman is also a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force.
Prior to serving in the House, Congressman Kim worked as a career public servant under both Democrats and Republicans. He served at USAID, the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House National Security Council, and in Afghanistan as an advisor to Generals Petraeus and Allen.
