Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced a new $18,300 federal grant from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development to help fund the purchase and installation of two emergency warning sirens in Mount Ayr. The new sirens will replace two sirens that are no longer fully functional.

“I’m happy to see that Mount Ayr will be able to use this investment to keep its citizens safe from severe weather, especially as we head into warmer months,” Rep. Axne said. “Many Iowans know how dangerous severe storms, tornadoes, and strong winds can be, and how important it is to get a proper and timely warning to be able to seek shelter.”

This project will help provide emergency warning signals for the 1,691 residents of Mount Ayr.

Paired with the city’s investment of $34,000, this grant will help cover the total cost of the new sirens.
