Rep. Axne Invites High School Students to Participate in the 2021 Congressional Art Competition

Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced the opening of the submission window for the 2021 High School Congressional Art Competition in Iowa’s Third Congressional District.

High school students throughout the Third District are invited to submit original pieces of art to Rep. Axne’s office.

The final day to submit artwork is April 26, 2021. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges involved in the arts across central and southwest Iowa.

The first-place winner’s art will be hung in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.

Today is the first day students can submit pieces of artwork either online or to the Congresswoman’s district offices in Council Bluffs or Des Moines.

Congressional Art Competition Submission Instructions:

Each Third District high school student may submit one piece of artwork. There is no limit to the number of submissions per school. The artwork must be an original piece no more than 28 inches by 28 inches, 4 inches in depth, and may not weigh more than 15 pounds.

Submissions can be sent to Rep. Axne’s district offices in Council Bluffs or Des Moines. Alternatively, participants can take a photo of their artwork and email it to IA03.ArtContest@mail.house.gov. 

The artwork submission must also include a Student Information & Release Form and a 100-200 word summary of the piece. These must be attached to the email or printed and sent with the artwork.
