Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) applauded the launch of the Biden-Harris Administration’s new Community Health Center Vaccination Program, which will provide Iowans in under-served communities additional options for receiving a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination.
The new program would directly allocate a supply of COVID-19 vaccines to be distributed through community health centers (CHCs) that are supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA-funded CHCs serve nearly 30 million patients each year, 91% of which are living at or below the federal poverty line.
“The data is clear: we need more shots, and more ways to get them in the arms of Iowans. This new program will utilize the health resources already serving Iowa’s communities to ramp up our vaccination efforts,” said Rep. Axne. “I will continue pushing the Biden-Harris Administration to increase the COVID-19 vaccine supplies coming to Iowa, and working with state and local partners to ensure we get those supplies out to Iowans as quickly and safely as possible.”
In addition to expanding vaccination sites to CHCs, the White House also announced today that the distribution of COVID-19 vaccinations will increase an additional five percent next week, a 28% total increase in supply over the past three weeks.
The Biden-Harris Administration announced the first phase of the CHC program will start next week, beginning with 250 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in all 50 states. More information on the individual locations will be announced soon.
