WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) held a town hall to celebrate Black History Month. The Congressman discussed the historic legacy of Timbuctoo, a community of formerly enslaved and free Black people settled in the modern-day Westampton Township in 1826, and the Black history that lives throughout New Jersey.

"Timbuctoo is an inspirational part of our country's history that happened right here in New Jersey over a century ago, " said Congressman Kim. "Black history is all our history, and I'm glad we were able to discuss this historic community together. I am grateful to Guy for his work at the historical society and for joining us. It was great to see so many people in our community come together to talk about Black History and honor the legacies of those who established and lived in Timbuctoo. "

A full recording of the town hall can be found here. Congressman Kim was joined by Guy Weston, the managing director of the Timbuctoo Historical Society, visiting scholar at Rutgers University, and editor of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society Journal.
