BURLINGTON N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) met with students at Burlington City High school to talk about their safety and gun violence prevention.
“It was my privilege to speak with so many active, passionate student leaders today about gun violence prevention and school safety,” said Congressman Kim. “There have been over 200 mass shootings this year alone, we need to do more. Our children and our communities are relying on leaders to take action to protect them. As I go to Washington I will carry with me these students’ stories as we work to pass meaningful gun violence prevention legislation.”
Congressman Kim joined 11 students spanning all high school grade levels for a roundtable discussion to hear their thoughts about gun violence prevention, school safety, and what they want to see leaders in Washington do to address the scourge of school and mass shootings in America.
“I commend our students for using their voices to speak out against gun violence today and for their honesty and openness in expressing how it has personally impacted them,” said District Superintendent Dr. John Russell. “I urge students everywhere to continue this critical conversation after today and to demand action from America’s leaders. The collective voice of our youth is a powerful tool and one that will be instrumental in making the changes needed to stop gun violence from occurring in schools across the nation.
Congressman Kim has co-sponsored several bills to reduce gun violence and keep our communities safe including the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021, the Disarm Hate Act, and the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act.
Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
