Margaret Schiller: Economy

Florida

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Just like you, my family has felt the financial pressures of the current economy. Inflation puts undue pressure on our households, making it harder to pay for groceries, gas, utilities, etc. Supply chain challenges create scarcities and raise prices on most goods and services. We all feel it, some more than others.

If the answer to bringing immediate relief to our economy in this challenging environment were easy, we would have fixed it by now. But the solution is complex, will take time, and relies on several factors outside of our control (i.e. pandemic, war in Ukraine, etc.) to find improvement before we will see the relief we all crave.

However, there are things we can do to make a difference. We can create additional jobs in our area by expanding affordable housing, expanding Medicaid, and bringing a VA hospital to the First District.

Newly passed or proposed legislation will also help bring additional jobs and opportunities through the infrastructure bill and the proposed inflation reduction act. We can also work to improve public transportation, forgive student loans, increase minimum wage, and cap price gouging.
