All Americans must be guaranteed comprehensive reproductive healthcare to protect our individual liberties and capacity to make informed decisions for ourselves. The extremist Supreme Court’s disastrous decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has created a crisis that Congress must address immediately. To do so, we must make Roe v. Wade federal law by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act. This legislation will prevent states from enacting extreme bans on reproductive healthcare, leading women to be prosecuted for exercising their human rights. While the right to choose when to start a family is a critical component of reproductive freedom, other issues affect our ability to make educated decisions about our own bodies. We must further ensure that Americans receive age-appropriate, science-based reproductive education, experience menstrual equity and justice, and are provided comprehensive women’s healthcare services. To ensure menstrual justice, we should be funding free menstrual products and improving restroom facilities in our public schools, federal buildings, and women’s prisons. In addition, we must support women and their children by expanding WIC and SNAP benefits to cover menstrual hygiene products and diapers.
