In another example of rural people being exploited for profit, our ranchers and farmers are being prevented from repairing their agricultural equipment by unfair corporate practices. Farmers and ranchers deserve the freedom to repair their own agricultural equipment without corporate or government interference. At present, family-owned farms are being held hostage by big equipment manufacturers which are forcing families to spend thousands of dollars and drive hours to distant dealerships to repair equipment that could be more easily and cheaply fixed. The purchases of tools, vehicles, and machinery should always come with access to diagnostic software so that farmers can repair the property they bought with their hard-earned money. Danielle supports passing the bipartisan Freedom to Repair Act which will end corporations’ abuse of copyright law to permit farmers to make repairs to their equipment. In addition, she favors having the Federal Trade Commission eliminate all other unfair corporate policies which limit Americans’ freedom to make decisions for themselves about their property. By guaranteeing the right to repair, we will foster economic competition, streamline locally-owned agriculture, and revitalize our rural communities.
