Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. welcomed Marcia Fudge, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to the district May 23, 2022 and praised her and the Biden Administration’s efforts to create more safe and affordable housing nationwide.  Rep. Payne, Jr. invited Secretary Fudge to attend his Housing Roundtable with state and local leaders, including New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, and housing advocates at the Donald M. Payne, Sr. School of Technology in Newark, NJ.  Secretary Fudge spoke about the need for more affordable housing nationwide and the importance of personal ownership instead of corporate ownership of homes, which can drive prices higher than market value.

“It was an honor to welcome HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge to Newark to discuss the importance of housing to the district and our country,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “She was a great colleague and dedicated representative of Ohio’s 11th Congressional District for 13 years before she became Secretary.  I was pleased the Secretary decided to come to the district because I know we are strong advocates for actions to create more quality housing opportunities for all Americans.  I am proud to see $2 billion in the federal budget for the HOME Investment Partnership Program because of the benefits it provides to America’s affordable housing system.  In addition, I know Secretary Fudge is the leader necessary to help make the Biden Administration’s Housing Supply Action Plan a reality to improve the housing options for millions of Americans, especially minorities.  It was great to have her attend my Housing Roundtable and I look forward to having her in my district again soon.”
