Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. voted for a bill today to protect the right of Americans to use contraception for their health and safety as well as prevent pregnancy. The bill, the Right to Contraception Act of 2022 (H.R. 8373), provides access to contraception for all Americans regardless of state or local laws that might deny it. In addition, the bill protects a health care provider’s right to provide contraceptives, contraception and any information related to contraception.
“The right of Americans to protect their physical health and control if and when they want to have families should be absolute,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. “But contraception is more than a means to prevent pregnancy. It can be a critical tool for medical professionals to support the reproductive health of women and young girls. This bill secures the right for Americans to acquire contraception when necessary and make healthy choices regarding their reproductive safety. I am proud to support this bill and hope the Senate pass it soon to protect this right.”
