Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. voted for a bill today to enhance the accuracy of Census data to make sure all Americans are counted and states like New Jersey get all the federal money available to them. The bill, the Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act (H.R. 8326), ensures the reliable collection of population data, which establishes the number of Congressional districts per state and determines how billions of federal dollars are spent nationwide.

“The Census must be accurate and trustworthy to get all Americans counted every 10 years,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “Census data determines political representation and federal support for communities nationwide.  We need to improve the way the Census is conducted to restore public confidence in the count and the U.S. Census Bureau overall.  We cannot let partisan divides interfere with the Census count.  This bill will allow the Bureau to make the reforms necessary to move our nation towards an accurate and inclusive census count that fairly and accurately reflects our nation’s population.”
