Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. voted for a bill today to strengthen protections for federal government whistleblowers to promote more public accountability and integrity in federal offices. The bill, the Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act (H.R. 2988), prohibits employees from retaliation if they expose fraud or other illegal actions in their federal department or agency and establishes the right for employees who suffer retaliation to pursue their case in court and receive timely relief for their retaliation claims.
“Whistleblowers are patriots who make our nation stronger by exposing the wrongdoing in federal departments and agencies,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. “They should never fear losing their job or other punishments for raising concerns about misconduct, fraud, and corruption. I am proud that my colleagues and I took this necessary step today to broaden their protections and encourage others to speak up when they witness or hear about of illegal activity in the federal government.”
