Smiley: Murray Shows No Compassion for Victims of Crime

Veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley released the following statement in response to Senator Patty Murray’s visit to a Capitol Hill coffee shop yesterday:

“Now that her corporate allies failed to take down my ad holding her accountable for soft-on-crime policies, Patty Murray has resorted to making fun of Seattle’s crime crisis, claiming that Capitol Hill is a ‘thriving neighborhood.’ This shows she has no compassion for Washingtonians who have had their lives and livelihoods ruined by rampant crime.

“Just in the last week, this iconic Seattle neighborhood has been victim to 43 assaults, 19 motor vehicle threats, 17 thefts, 8 burglaries and 1 arson. Since the beginning of this year, Capitol Hill has suffered 4 homicides, 21 rapes, 89 robberies and nearly 197 aggravated assaults.

“This is what happens when career politicians like Patty Murray have supported defunding the police for 30 years and allowed crimes to go unprosecuted. I will turn this CRISIS into HOPE by funding our police, giving our heroes in blue hiring and retention bonuses, and holding repeat offenders accountable.”
