Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), president pro tempore emeritus of the U.S. Senate, issued the following statement after a meeting with Dr. Bisera Turkovi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I had the honor of meeting with Dr. Turkovi this afternoon in my office. Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing a potential political crisis—one that threatens to reopen old wounds in the country. A number of Bosnian-Iowan families lost loved ones or faced serious hardships as a result of the war and genocide that previously beset the country. I urge the Biden administration to use every tool possible to prevent the situation from deteriorating. I’ve written to Secretary Blinken to that effect, and have asked to join the Congressional Bosnia Caucus to work in a bipartisan and bicameral way toward resolving this serious sitution. I thank Minister Turkovi for her time and pray for a peaceful future in Bosnia.”
