WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) voted to pass two bills to protect women’s healthcare rights in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Roe v. Wade decision, erasing 50-years of precedent on reproductive freedom.

“The Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe left millions of Americans scared and outraged. In the days after the news broke, I was proud to stand with my neighbors to speak-out against this injustice. Now I’m trying to do everything I can to protect women’s rights in this country,” said Congressman Kim. “These two bills are a good start but we can’t stop here. We need to make sure that women are treated fairly and equally. That means equal pay for equal work, not having to worry about walking alone at night, the freedom to marry who you love, and the right to raise a family in this country safely. I’m glad we’re taking these steps and look forward to continuing this work for equality and fairness.”

Congressman Kim voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act through the House for a second time to defend women’s rights to reproductive freedom, ensuring health care providers have a statutory right to provide abortion care and patients have a statutory right to receive that care. The Congressman also voted for the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, which would prevent states from preventing, restricting, impeding, or otherwise retaliating against a person traveling across state lines to obtain a lawful abortion. You can read more about this bill here.

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
