MAHWAH, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined local law enforcement and elected officials in North Jersey at the Bergen County Police Memorial Day Service to honor and remember our fallen law enforcement — the nearly 26,000 officers across our nation who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Gottheimer honored 43 Bergen County law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice and will be remembered on the Monument Honor Roll of the Bergen County Law Enforcement Memorial.
“Every day, our brave law enforcement officers wake up, put on a bulletproof vest, kiss their wives, husbands, and children goodbye, and then put their lives on the line to protect us all. Today, we honor those we lost in that service. In that bravery, it is those we honor on the Monument Honor Roll. For that reason, it’s up to all of us to always get your backs and always stand by the families of the fallen. In Congress, it is my responsibility to support legislation to fund — not defund — local law enforcement to keep them and our communities safe. It’s the least we can do for the fallen,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), a member of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus. “Our law enforcement officers tirelessly work day in and day out. They spend their lives preparing for what could be the worst day — and of course there are dark days — from 9/11 to fighting crime and terror to building the trusted relationships that you do everyday in our communities.”
The service was hosted by the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association and the Bergen County PBA Conference.
Gottheimer was joined by Bergen County Executive James Tedesco, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton, Bergen County Clerk John Hogan, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, President of Bergen County Chiefs Association Chief Michael Gracey, Chairman of Bergen County PBA Carlos Calderin, and local law enforcement.
