Jon Chuba: Housing

Florida

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

As housing becomes more expensive, the dream of owning a home is often a luxury for people with large savings accounts and good credit scores.

As such, we need to expand first-time home buyer programs and support renovations or new home builds. Increasing supply will decrease the housing shortage, which is a primary cause for the rising cost of housing, and increasing home ownership will grow our economy and generate additional tax revenue, thus benefiting both government and local businesses.

Furthermore, we need to prioritize families over investors and zone some new construction for in-state residents to ensure that Florida residents are not priced out of the market.

We also need to educate people on the factors of a credit score and how to improve their score so they are able to qualify for a mortgage and become a homeowner.
