Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), president pro tempore emeritus of the U.S. Senate, was recognized today for his significant work on behalf of workplace injury victims. The National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA) presented Grassley with their Lifetime Achievement Award during an annual business meeting this morning.

“Structured settlements are critical to ensuring workplace injury victims and their families are financially secure while living free of reliance on government benefit programs. The issue caught my attention because I saw the good that could be accomplished – these victims deserve to live their lives with dignity and security. I’m honored to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award and thank the NSSTA for recognizing my work on behalf of injury victims,” Grassley said.

The NSSTA assists individuals who have been severely injured in car accidents, on the job or harassed in the workplace by helping ensure they receive the long-term financial security they deserve through the use of structured settlements. Their stated mission is to “promote growth, establishment and preservation of structured settlements in order to provide long-term financial security to personal injury claimants and their families”.

Grassley worked with former Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) to extend the structured settlement tax rules to worker’s compensation to cover physical injuries suffered in the workplace. Previous recipients of NSSTA’s Lifetime Achievement Award include former Sens. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
