Transportation Infrastructure
Improve condition and safety of thousands of miles of American roads and highways. Reduce congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality.
Improve, repair, reconstruct, and modernize thousands of bridges.
Expand and modernize public transit. A properly implemented public transit system can bring back rapid bus and rail service to communities across the country. It will also reduce traffic congestion.
Build and expand an efficient and reliable rail service for passengers and freight. Efficient passenger and rail service supports economic development, allows thousands of commuters to reach their destination, and reduces roadway congestion. This is an ideal forum for new transport technology including electric and hybrid engines to reduce negative climate impact.
Increase production of affordable electric vehicles for consumers. Electrify diesel transit vehicles, including the yellow school buses. Electrify service vehicles, including the federal fleet of United States Postal Service mail trucks.
Improve our airports to ensure safe and efficient air travel. America has changed significantly in the past 25 years. However, airport infrastructure has not. Investments need to be made to enhance security, improve passenger experience, expand competition, and lower prices for travelers.
Expand and improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Create more paved shoulders and lanes, intersection treatments, and parking/storage facilities for bicycles. Create more overpasses and underpasses for pedestrians.
Reduce oil consumption through cleaner fuels and electric vehicles and significantly reduce methane emissions from oil and gas production and transportation.
Drinking Water Infrastructure
Eliminate lead pipes and service lines. In children, small amounts of lead can inhibit brain development and intellectual ability.
Our water systems are the most essential for the daily lives of Americans. Access to clean and safe drinking water is critical for public health. As seen in Flint, Michigan, the lack of access to clean water impedes health, safety, and ultimately the economic development of a community.
Sewerage Infrastructure
Develop more effective methods of managing stormwater. Pipe systems are frequently overwhelmed during storm events in developed areas. Rainwater or melted snow would normally be absorbed into the ground, naturally filtered, then slowly make its way into rivers, lakes and streams. But in developed areas, impervious surfaces such as concrete and asphalt can’t absorb water which in turn causes uncontrolled flooding and non potable water for consumers and citizens.
Seek innovative “green” sewerage infrastructure solutions. It can be beneficial to the environment to develop rain gardens, porous pavements, and green roofs (cisterns). These cost-effective solutions have multiple benefits and can also beautify public spaces for the good of all.
Power Infrastructure
Improve the electrical grid system. In Texas, recent events (snowstorms and heat waves) illustrate the destructive impact of poor urban planning. Electric systems are lifelines to families, businesses, and entire communities.
Provide consumer incentives for smart stewardship of electric resources. Energy efficient appliances, education on responsible usage, and other community programs can help us solidify a solid approach to renewable and useful energy sources.
Digital Infrastructure
Every home should have broadband internet. Affordable, reliable, high-speed broadband internet should be available to every American. Estonia has offered every citizen free internet access since the early 2000s, stating it is a human right, and has benefited tremendously economically and socially as a result. We can do better.
American government itself needs a secure, safe system of digital information management to protect its national security. Multiple attempts to hijack American government and business systems from abroad have threatened our country’s economics and defense and must be stopped. With the constant evolution of technological access and innovation we need to be several steps ahead of those who would infiltrate our secure servers.
